Corus posts higher Q2 revenue earnings

Despite a tough ad sales market, Corus Entertainment, owner of kidcasters YTV, Nickelodeon Canada and Treehouse, posted higher revenue earnings in Q2 and its kids business showed growth helped by merchandise sales of Nelvana's Beyblade property.

Despite a tough ad sales market, Corus Entertainment, owner of kidcasters YTV, Nickelodeon Canada and Treehouse, posted higher revenue earnings in Q2 and its kids business showed growth helped by merchandise sales of Nelvana’s Beyblade property.

The Toronto, Canada-based media conglomerate posted profit earnings of US$33.5 million for the three months to February 29, against a profit of US$32.8 million in 2011.

Overall revenues rose 8% to US$205.6 million, against a year-earlier US$191 million.

Overall TV revenue rose 10% to US$163 million helped by Beyblade and higher Movie Central pay TV subscriber fees, offsetting a slight fall in radio revenue down 1% to US$42.3 million.

Movie Central ended the quarter with 988,000 paid subscribers.
