New York-based Dover Publications has partnered with Sesame Workshop to publish Sesame Street Simple Science Experiments with Elmo and Friends: Water and Earth, one of the first books to focus on Sesame’s STEM curriculum, which encourages kids to embrace science, technology, engineering and math.
The 96-page book, which will be available this month, targets boys and girls ages three and up and features characters including Elmo and Super Grover 2.0 who use numbered steps, simple at-home experiments (how to make a table-top volcano, an indoor rainstorm, bubbles), puzzles, journals and illustrations to help kids learn about science.
The book, written by acclaimed children’s author Gina Gold (Sesame Street, Dragon Tales), also features illustrations by veteran Sesame artist Tom Brannon.
New STEM initiatives that teach exploration, discovery, and problem solving are currently taught in many elementary, junior, and high schools.
The latest publishing deal further extends Dover’s relationship with the Workshop, which began in 2009 and has resulted in Dover publishing a full line of books based on popular Sesame Street characters.
