New York-based Little Airplane Productions has secured a trio of new deals for its short-form, animated series Small Potatoes. The popular spuds are due to appear on German kids’ channel KiKA, Rai in Italy and on TV Brasil.
KiKA will air the series as 13 x seven minutes and Rai and TV Brasil will air the series in its original form of 26 x –three-minute form. More than 20 broadcasters, including CBeebies in the UK, Disney Junior in the US and ABC Australia currently air the series.
Small Potatoes is also making a major impact online via its interactive Facebook page. The page has now received more than one million ‘likes’ with fans from around the world queuing up to download music, watch videos, play games, and receive free customized potato avatars of their profile picture. Besides its popularity with parents of younger children, the Small Potatoes Facebook page has attracted legions of teen and college-aged fans.
A thousand of these Facebook fans are set to see their potato avatars appear on screen as members of the cast in the upcoming animated Small Potatoes feature film, Meet the Small Potatoes, which recently wrapped production and stars the voice of actor Malcolm McDowell as Lester Koop, the Small Potatoes’ manager.
Small Potatoes follows the adventures of a band of four singing potatoes. Every episode represents a different phase of the band’s career, from their “roots” in rock & roll to their journey into jazz, reggae, disco and hip hop. The series was created and directed Little Airplane founder and president Josh Selig.
