Saban Brands has announced it plans to work with merchandising partners to reintroduce the hit Popples franchise from the ’80s to a new generation of fans.

Merchandise planned for fall 2013 based on Popples characters from the popular ’80s television series include apparel, accessories, mobile and tablet apps, and plush while new Popples characters and additional products for spring 2014 include publishing, stationery, party goods, and crafting.

The Popples TV series made its US debut in 1985 and a successful toy line was launched the following year that generated more than US$444 million in retail sales worldwide.

Original Popples plush toy creatures from Mattel could transform from fluffy balls to furry friends and back again.

A previous relaunch of the American Greetings Properties’ Popples brand occurred in 2007  in the US and Europe through Playmates Toys.
