New York’s Little, Brown Books for Young Readers is set to publish Struck By Lightning: The Carson Phillips Journal, the first novel for young adults penned by bestselling author and Glee actor Chris Colfer.

The acquisition of the novel for global English rights was made by Little, Brown Books’ VP and deputy publisher Andrew Smith, and executive editorial director Alvina Ling, who will edit, with Rob Weisbach of Rob Weisbach Creative Management on behalf of Colfer.

Targeted for teens 15 and up, the darkly comedic novel follows the story of an outcast high school senior who blackmails the popular kids in his school into contributing to his literary journal to bolster his college application in hopes of getting into Northwestern and one day becoming editor of The New Yorker.

The novel is set to be available in hardcover, e-book, and audio formats on November 20, 2012, and will be published in the UK on November 27, 2012, by the Atom imprint of the Little, Brown Book Group.

Colfer has also written an original screenplay for the upcoming Struck By Lightning feature film expected to be released by Tribeca Film later this year. Colfer will star in the film alongside actors including Allison Janney, Christina Hendricks, and Dermot Mulroney.

Colfer’s debut novel, The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell, is a number one New York Times bestseller.
