German company Constantin Film has appointed Sony Pictures Consumer Products as the global consumer products agent for its upcoming young adult fantasy movie Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

The film, which is based on Cassandra Clare’s bestselling book series, stars Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror) as an ordinary 19-year-old girl who discovers she is a descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, young half-angel warriors who are locked in a battle to protect the present world from demons including warlocks, vampires, and werewolves.

As the film’s global merchandising agent, Sony is looking to partner with licensees in product categories including apparel and accessories, gift and novelty items, beauty, mobile and social games, stationery, publishing, collectibles, and housewares.

Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is currently shooting in Toronto, Canada and is set to premiere in North America through Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems division on August 23, 2013.
