DHX Media-owned Wildbrain Entertainment is taking mobile game Battle Bears  into the world of screen content and consumer products, having signed a deal with the game’s creator SkyVu Entertainment to develop the property in both realms.

Battle Bears has surpassed 18 million downloads and currently averages 100,000 downloads per week across more than 40 countries. The game, itself, plays out like a cheeky action-comedy in which Oliver Bear and his pals are charged with saving the world from a possessed horde of pink bears known as the Huggables that try to hug their enemies to death.

Wildbrain is now working on extending the IP into content and consumer products and is contemplating a TV series treatment, contending the property has the potential to become the next big boys action-comedy brand. Interestingly, Battle Bears began its life as a screenplay, written by SkyVu co-founder Ben Vu when he was an animation student at CalArts.
