Educational toy designer LeapFrog Enterprises has extended its existing partnership with Lionsgate in which the film studio will produce and distribute four new animated movies for DVD and digital release based on LeapFrog characters.

Planned to launch for early 2014, the movies will feature new learning adventures with LeapFrog’s Leap, Lily and Tad.

The deal, which extends Lionsgate’s distribution rights for the LeapFrog catalogue, will see LeapFrog create new content, updated characters and learning curricula. Lionsgate will attain worldwide distribution rights for DVD and digital for the new productions.

To date, LeapFrog’s home entertainment catalogue has sold nearly nine million units and since 2008, LeapFrog and Lionsgate have released 12 animated DVDs that help kids learn about phonics, vocabulary, social skills, science, technology, engineering and math.
