BBC Worldwide’s pilot VOD service, the global BBC iPlayer, is adding kids series, including Rastamouse and Wallace & Gromit, to its programming lineup thanks to new deals struck with DHX Media and Aardman Animations.
Content from Aardman will be available from December and feature four Wallace & Gromit half-hour films (A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave, and A Matter of Loaf and Death), a series of 10 short films including Soccamatic and Snoozatron, and preschool hit Timmy Time for the iPlayer’s CBeebies category. Creature Comforts season one and animated series The Morph Files will also be added, but featured in the iPlayer’s Family section targeted to older kids.
DHX will add its popular stop-motion preschool series Rastamouse, the nature-themed dirtgirlworld and Grandpa In My Pocket to the iPlayer’s CBeebies category.
The iPlayers’ Family and CBeebies categories were first launched across Western Europe in July.
BBC iPlayer offers a limited amount of content for free, but its core business model is subscription-based.
