In a move that sees it become one of the world’s largest independent kids mobile app companies, developer Night & Day Studios has joined forces with New York-based enterprise software firm ScrollMotion in a new strategic partnership.

The new collaboration sees Night & Day become the exclusive children’s media licensee for ScrollMotion’s interactive app development platform and will take on-board ScrollMotion’s library of more than 800 kids apps, featuring hit IPĀ like Scooby-Doo, Superman, Batman, DC Super Friends, Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Sesame Street, Arthur, Thomas & Friends and VeggieTales.

ScrollMotion is also taking a stake in Night & Day which owns Peekaboo Barn and the Peekaboo series, as well as licensing rights to The World of Eric Carle, Caillou and Richard Scarry’s Busytown.

In addition, terms of the new deal will see Night & Day take over marketing support of existing ScrollMotion kids’ apps and launch a development phase for new app properties.

Joining Night & Day effective November 26 as its first chief revenue officer is ScrollMotion’s current VP of business development Sara Berliner, who will be based in New York. Berliner brings more than 10 years of business development and licensing experience in kids media to her new position. Berliner comes aboard after industry veteran Steve Chapman joined Night & Day as anĀ investor and CFO in August.

By the end of 2012, Night & Day is set to release 20 iOS and Android apps and will launch more than 50 apps in 2013. Plans are also in the works to launch a full-time agency division in 2013, develop and grow three original kids IP, and look for licensing partnerships for Night & Day’s own IP, including Peekaboo Barn and the Peekaboo series.

To date, the two companies’ combined apps represent nearly 20% of the iTunes App Store’s top paid iPad book apps, and Peekaboo Barn has been played over 40 million times worldwide with international sales representing nearly 30% of Night & Day’s app store revenues.
