Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific is set to launch its boy-skewing Toonami action/anime channel and Cartoonito preschool kidsnet across Southeast Asia on December 1.
The new channels will complement Turner’s existing kids channels in the region – Cartoon Network, Boomerang and POGO.
Toonami will initially be available in Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan and will focus on fan engagement in the regions by encouraging kids to enter competitions and submit story ideas that could be used in the programming.
In December and January, fans with a love of science-fiction can submit their own ideas completing the story about the channel’s origins which centers on a futuristic lifeform named NAMI.
The 24-hour channel is also set to kick off cross-platform offerings in apps, games and websites including www.toonamiasia.com, Toonami on Facebook, and a dedicated YouTube channel.
Toonami, based on the hit programming block of the same name on Cartoon Network US, features hit series including Young Justice, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Dragon Ball Z and Iron Man Armored Adventures.
For boys and girls ages three to seven, the HD Cartoonito channel features successful series such as LazyTown, My Little Pony and Noddy in Toyland.
