After completing a review of its business operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Turner Broadcasting System International has announced a restructure and anticipates laying off 30% of its EMEA staff or approximately 250 positions and roles.
In a statement made today by TBS International President Gerhard Zeiler, the organizational changes are “designed to give more operating power and accountability within the regions, as opposed to large central functions.” Improved efficiencies and reduced costs would also result from the changes.
When reached this morning, a representative from Turner would not comment on how the restructure will specifically affect its kids channel programming team led by Michael Carrington, Cecilia Persson and Richard Rowe, or channel operations. The rep would also not comment on how the consumer products operations for Turner’s Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Cartoonito brands might be affected.
The initial review was announced in September last year and saw the UK-based staff placed under collective consultation. Layoffs are expected once the ongoing consultation period with staff has ended. Zeiler also stated that some business functions would be outsourced following the process.
