El Chavo gets master toy deal

Univision Communications has named US toyco Jakks Pacific as the master toy partner for North America for the iconic Hispanic-targeting property El Chavo and its animated spin-off series for kids, El Chavo Animado.

Univision Communications has named US toyco Jakks Pacific as the master toy partner for North America for the iconic Hispanic-targeting property El Chavo and its animated spin-off series for kids, El Chavo Animado.

After debuting products based on the iconic property at New York’s International Toy Fair, Jakks plans to launch the full toy line (action figures, plush, dolls, role play products, dress up, seasonal toys, table top games and novelty items) at retail from fall 2013.

El Chavo, which broadcasts in the US and Spanish-speaking countries worldwide, is the most-watched television sitcom in Mexican history and has reached more than 350 million viewers worldwide. The character El Chavo was first made famous more than 40 years ago by comic Roberto Gómez Bolaños

The animated version of the series, El Chavo Animado, currently airs on Univision Network at 4 p.m. ET/PT.
