Canadian kids entertainment producer and distributor DHX Media has signed a video-on-demand deal with Ohio-based Midwest Tape’s digital platform Hoopla.

The three-year deal, the first for DHX with Hoopla, expands on DHX’s aim to exploit digital opportunities for its programming library, newly grown after the Cookie Jar Entertainment acquisition.

“We are firmly committed to seeking opportunities with new platforms, and this is a significant deal for us as Hoopla has a key audience across North America,” said DHX SVP distribution Josh Scherba in a statement.

Midwest Tape is a media distributor that works exclusively with public libraries. Its digital Hoopla service, also developed for libraries, lets library patrons borrow materials, including video, music and audiobooks, via streaming or download.

Hoopla will air more than 1300 episodes of DHX Media content as part of the deal, including kids’ series like Inspector Gadget, Busyworld of Richard Scarry, Caillou and Madeline.

The content will be available throughout the US and Canada through VOD streaming.

“Teaming with DHX Media provides our public library customers with amazing children’s video content which will prove to be extremely popular with library patrons throughout North America,” said Midwest Tape VP Jeff Jankowski in his own statement.
