On the heels of taking on its new moniker, Gaumont Animation, the production company formerly known as Alphanim, has inked a digital deal with San Francisco-based game developer BulkyPix for a mobile app based on the new Calimero animated series.

The free-to-play customizable app, which will launch in conjunction with the television series this year, will be available for both iOS and Android devices and will be based on the new series’ designs. There will also be special features meant to evoke nostalgia among parents who grew up watching the original Calimero series.

The Calimero character was initially created in 1963 by Nino Pagot, Toni Pagot and Ignazio Colnaghi and has since been the focus of 290 episodes of animation aired in more than 80 countries.  Gaumont Animation’s new animated CGI series has already spawned toy, apparel and plush licensing deals.
