A new live-action preschool series will further the ongoing production relationship between Australia’s ABC Childrens TV and China’s national broadcaster CCTV. Hoopla Doopla has begun filming in Beijing for a debut on ABC4Kids next year.

Hoopla Doopla, which has spent the past three years in development, is a 52 x 12-minute live-action, non-verbal comedy series for preschoolers in that follows six energetic characters.

The production features a cast and production team from both Australia and China, including an Australian and a Chinese director.

Hoopla Doopla will be filmed over the course of six months on a specially designed studio set that features circus elements. It was created by Melinda Wearne and will be produced by Beyond Screen Production and the China Television Drama Production Centre. The Australian Children’s Television Foundation will distribute the series internationally.
