Children’s social network BinWeevils.com has launched a UK-based contest, together with Aardman Animations and Sony Music, in the hopes of finding the best video animators for its debut music album.

Aimed at kids ages six to 12, the avator-based world of BinWeevils houses games, social communities and TV content from Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. The music competition will offer the chance for four winners to create the official pop video for Bin Tunes, the Bin Weevils debut album that will be released by Sony Music on  July 29. The winners will visit Aardman Animations in Bristol and work with a professional director to create a pop video that will be available to the two million or so monthly users on BinWeevils.com.

Contest entrants can submit a short pop video clip that features Bin Weevils characters. In doing so, they must use Animate It! Software, which was created by Kudlian Software in association with Aardman.

The creation process of the Bin Tunes album has already been steeped in social. Since the announcement of the album, the site has allowed users to collaborate on album lyrics, vote on the best songs and chose album artwork. Kids have also been auditioned to sing on the album. This concept of emerging fans in the content creation process has been taking various forms in the kids space over the past few months. Last month, for instance, Hasbro called on fans to help create its latest Transformers character.
