Announced at the Banff World Media Festival, Canadian animation station Teletoon Canada is adding two new series to its original production slate and renewing four series for new seasons for its upcoming season.
Halifax-based DHX Media will produce a new, CGI version of Inspector Gadget (26 x 11 minutes), featuring Dr. Claw, Penny, Brain and the accident-prone, gadget-loving Inspector.
The net has also picked up Vancouver-based Atomic Cartoons’ Pirate Express (pictured), which features Newt, the 12-year-old son of Poseidon. Tensions are high as Newt and his crew push to succeed in their bizarre missions, to avoid being exiled to a ship in a bottle if they fail. The 52 x 11-minute Pirate Express is slated to air in fall 2014 on Teletoon.
In terms of renewals, Breakthrough Entertainment’s Rocket Monkeys (13 x 22 minutes) and Nerd Corps Entertainment’s Endangered Species (26 x 11 minutes), are back for second seasons, slated to air in fall 2014.
And Fresh TV’s Total Drama: Pahkitew Island (13 x 22 minutes) will return for a sixth season in fall 2014, while DHX Media’s Johnny Test gets a seventh season (13 x 22 minutes), including a three-part special, on Teletoon.
Teletoon Canada also said Wednesday that it will premiere a slew of original programs this year, including new series Camp Lakebottom, Grojband, Endangered Species and Packages From Planet X, and returning series Detentionaire, Johnny Test, Fugget About It, Just Kidding and Total Drama All-Stars.
