US distributor Phase 4 Films’ kids and family affiliate kaboom! Entertainment has acquired the US rights to Canadian animated 3D film The Legend of Sarila.

The distributor is planning a stateside theatrical release for the film, produced by Montreal-based CarpeDiem Film & TV and 10th Avenue Productions, reportedly for October.

The Legend of Sarila is a coming of age story about three young Inuit travelling in search of a promised land that will save their clan from starvation.

The Canadian stereoscopic 3D film features the voices of Christopher Plummer, Dustin Milligan, Rachelle Lefevre, Geneviève Bujold, Tim Rozon, Natar Unqalaq and singer Elispie Isaac.

Directed by 10th Avenue’s Nancy Florence Savard, the film is produced by Savard and CarpeDiem’s Marie-Claude Beauchamp, Normand Thauvette and Paul Risacher.

The Legend of Sarila has been sold into 20 countries. It is distributed by eOne in Canada, Luxor in Russia, Telepool in Germany, Five Star Pictures in Israel and Talent Epitome in China.

The deal with Phase 4, out of the Annecy Animation Festival, was negotiated by international film sales agent Cinema Management Group.
