The big kids have spoken. Or rather, Disney XD is speaking to them.
From July 30 to August 1, the boy-skewing platform will host Disney Fandom, a special event that will air content from across the company that’s aimed at viewers ages 13 and older.
“As we continually seek ways to deepen our connection to viewers, we identified an opportunity to showcase a stable of fan favorite content from every corner of The Walt Disney Company that appeals to teens and families,” David Levine, VP and GM of Disney XD Worldwide, tells Kidscreen. In terms of extending the over-13 content beyond three nights, Levine says Disney Fandom is currently a standalone event but viewers will decide if they want to see more.
For the time being, the inaugural US event will feature Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean movies and a Star Wars documentary, as well as special episodes created exclusively for Disney Fandom including On The Red Carpet Disney Fandom edition and Once Upon a Time: For the Fans. Viewers will also get a peek at Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, along with Disney’s Frozen, Planes, and ABC’s Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.
Starting next week, Disney.com/Fandom will launch with special looks from the three-day programming event, a printable schedule, the latest news and Disney Fandom polls, as well as online games from Marvel and the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films.
