In a new operating strategy move to increase viewership across platforms, Turner is set to launch an SVOD service in Spain, has cancelled its Spanish pay-TV channels for Cartoon Network and Cartoonito, and is moving its kids programming exclusively to DTT channel Boing.

Turner’s SVOD service is expected to launch in the next few months while Cartoon Network’s flagship programs will also be available at www.cartoonnetwork.es.

Cartoon Network and its preschool kidsnet Cartoonito ceased to operate as Spanish pay-TV channels on June 30. According to a Turner rep in Spain, the changes won’t affect any executive positions at the channel.

Boing, which launched in 2010 and is owned by Turner with Mediaset EspaƱa, currently has the highest viewership ratings of any commercial children’s channel in Spain.

Cartoon Network was first present in the country in 1997 as a European feed and launched as a Spanish channel in 1999. Turner joint ventures in Spain include TCM, TNT and CNN International.
