BBC Worldwide content director Deirdre Brennan is making a return to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) as controller of children’s content. She assumes the role in January. In the interim, Barbara Uecker will act as controller, following Tim Brooke-Hunt’s departure next month.

Brennan’s television career spans stints at MTV Networks and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. She was director of programming from 2007 to 2010 at Nickelodeon Australia before moving to BBC Worldwide, where she is currently director of content for Australia and New Zealand.

As GM and director of channels and branded services Australasia from January 2012, Brennan was responsible for the ongoing performance and development of the linear channel portfolio – UKTV, UKTV NZ, BBC Knowledge, BBC Knowledge NZ and CBeebies – as well as managing local operations for BBC World News and branded non-linear services in the market, including Global iPlayer.

Brennan spent six years at the ABC before leaving her role as ABC Kids’ programmer in 2007.

Brooke-Hunt, who has been instrumental in extending ABC TV to new genres and platforms, announced his resignation from his role as controller earlier this summer. He will pursue new opportunities in children’s entertainment once he leaves the position next month.
