International distributor PGS Entertainment is now repping worldwide broadcast rights (excluding the US and France) to the upcoming 52 x 11-minute, CG-animated Alvin and the Chipmunks TV series.

Created by Janice Karman and Ross Bagdasarian of Bagdasarian Productions, in partnership with Genao Productions, Alvin and the Chipmunks will launch at MIPCOM this fall and is set to debut in early 2015. The series marks the first time the fun-loving characters have been featured in a TV show in 20 years.

The new PGS deal follows the global success of three Alvin and the Chipmunks films, 2007’s Alvin and The Chipmunks from Fox, Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Alvin and The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, which have a combined worldwide box office gross of nearly US$2 billion.

Alvin, Simon, and Theodore first made their national television debut in 1961 with the primetime animated The Alvin Show. Another Saturday morning series ran from 1983 to 1991 and saw the introduction of The Chipettes, who were created by Bagdasarian’s wife, Karman.

The Alvin and the Chipmunks brand has also experienced success across consumer product categories including video games, apparel, toys, plush and accessories.
