Italy’s De Agostini Publishing, Planeta Junior and Musicartoon launched brand-new  co-production, Egyxos, in Cannes this past week. As the first such venture for the trio of partners, the plan is to push into TV and consumer products deals worldwide.

The  action-adventure 2D 26 x half hour-series is aimed at boys eight to 12 years old. Egyxos tells the story of a mysterious civilization, lost in time and space, that ends up traveling back to Earth. The Egyxos are gifted with superpowers and two warrior brothers, the good and brave Kefer and the evil Exaton, continually battle each other. Human boy Leo gets thrown into the fray, as he has inherited powers of The Last Pharoh, but is unaware of his strengths.

“The Egyptian culture is a really interesting plot that can easily attract kids all around the word, as it’s a no-limit theme and there are not many cultural or geographic limitations for the Egyxos…. Egyptian Guardians, mummies, pharaohs, mystery and adventure are fundamental for the plot of the series,” Massimo Bruno, head of TV channels at De Agostini Editore, tells Kidscreen.

The original IP was developed by De Agostini Publishing and features a collection of more than 20 characters fighting for the control of the mysterious world of Egyxos in a number of books. Naturally, the brand is primed for a consumer products rollout, which will start with main categories such as toys and publishing and will eventually reach all CP categories.

The first episode was screened at last week’s MIP Junior.
