It’s been two months since the debut of Disney Infinity, and the toy/videogame platform is the focus of a publishing deal with Penguin Children’s Puffin imprint, which will create a range of titles – including an official guide book – based on the family-friendly property.
Among the items to be published are the official Disney Infinity guide book, activity guide, sticker books and further gift formats that tie in directly with the videogame.
The range will launch in March beginning with a series of activity books. The official guide to the game scheduled for May and an annual planned for August. Puffin will work closely with the Disney team, especially the game developers, and is set to launch a number of titles throughout 2014 and beyond.
Disney Infinity launched on August 18 and sold nearly 300,000 units in its first two weeks. A direct competitor to Activision’s US$1.5 billion Skylanders franchise, Infinity stars the characters from Walt Disney and Pixar Studios’ most popular franchises and allows players to transport real-world toy versions of Disney characters into the virtual game worlds of Monsters University, the Incredibles, Cars, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lone Ranger, as well as into a giant open-ended toy environment.
