US-based Scholastic is putting its educational technology and blended learning portfolio on a more global scale with the release of Scholastic Literacy Pro and Scholastic PR1ME Mathematics to international markets.

The educational programs are designed to help teachers worldwide raise student achievement in English literacy and mathematics, as they offer tools and data that let teachers make decisions and track students’ progress.

Scholastic Literacy Pro is a digital reading comprehension assessment program for students ages seven through 18 that combines Scholastic Reading Inventory computer-adaptive assessment test with the Lexile-based independent reading program, Scholastic Reading Counts!, which tracks student success on the books they read in and out of school. Based on each student’s individual level as well as their chosen interests, Scholastic Literacy Pro provides a personalized reading list for each student.

Meanwhile, Scholastic PR1ME Mathematics, which is aimed at kids in grades one through six, is a collaboration with Singapore’s Ministry of Education and incorporates the best practices of Singapore, Republic of Korea and Hong Kong. These countries have consistently been top performers in international assessments such as Trends in Mathematics and Science Survey (TIMSS) and Performance in International Student Assessment (PISA).

This ongoing – and strengthening –  relationship between technology and education was recently analyzed by US-based Joan Ganz Cooney Center in  Learning at Home: Families’ Educational Media Use in America, which, among other findings, discovered that parents saw a greater perceived learning impact in the areas of cognitive skills, reading, and math from educational media use but less of an impact with learning science or anything related to the arts.
