New York-based indie mobile developer Lima Sky, in partnership with Nickelodeon, has launched Doodle Jump SpongeBob SquarePants, a new 2D level-based jumper game for iOS devices that marks the app company’s first co-branding with an animated TV series.
Currently available worldwide in eight languages on the Apple App Store for US$3.99 with in-app purchases, the app for kids ages four and up lets users play as the famous sea-dwelling sponge and features many familiar faces from Bikini Bottom including Patrick Star, Mr. Krabs, Squidward and Sandy.
In his search to locate the Krabby Patty secret formula, which has been stolen by the evil Plankton and his crew, SpongeBob must navigate through 40 themed levels while avoiding infamous villians, dangerous whirlpools, and treacherous jellyfish.
The app features unlockable new worlds, daily and weekly challenges, and power-ups and boosts from in-game coin collection or purchase via an iTunes account. An upcoming Android version of the game is also in the works.
Since launching in 2009, Doodle Jump has amassed 100 million fans globally and, according to Apple, is the number three paid iPhone app of all time.
Lima Sky has also expanded the brand across, toys, comic books, arcade games and fashion.
On the co-branding front, Lima Sky recently partnered with Crayola on a product placement campaign and a mobile crossover game.
