In looking to strengthen its presence outside of the US in emerging markets throughout Asia, Europe and Latin America, Mattel has appointed company vet Tim Kilpin as EVP of international.

Global sales currently make up roughly half of Mattel’s total annual revenue, and company CEO Bryan Stockton says the intention is to grow this number over the next few years.

According to its most recent financial results, Mattel has seen significant growth overseas, particularly within China and Russia. However, while Q1 of this year saw worldwide gross sales for Other Girls Brands rise  4%, primarily driven by Disney Princess and Ever After High, and partially offset by Monster High, worldwide gross sales for the Entertainment business, which includes Radica and Games, fell by 8%.

Kilpin is well-versed in Mattel’s business strategy, having held a variety of leadership roles with the company. Most recently, he served as EVP of the Global Brands Team – Boys & Girls, a role to which he was appointed in 2011. Prior to that, he served as GM and SVP of Mattel Brands.

Before Mattel, Kilpin worked as EVP of Studio Franchise Management at Disney.

Kilpin will continue to serve as a member of Mattel’s executive leadership team, reporting to Stockton.
