On the heels of signing a content renewal deal with Netflix, PBS Kids is furthering its cross-platform accessibility in the US by launching on Apple TV and extending its free PBS Kids Video App to Chromecast and Android devices.

The deal with Chromecast marks the first time Google’s digital media player has partnered with a kids content provider.

Now available for free in the Google Play Store, the PBS Kids Video App makes it easier for families with the WiFi connected Chromecast set-top-box-on-a-stick device to access full episodes and clips by the educational media brand for streaming to TVs.

The popular app, which features hit series including Peg + Cat, Sesame Street, Dinosaur Train and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, is also now available for Android phone and tablet users.

Additional features include special parent-targeted tools that allow caregivers to mark favorites, access related educational apps and extra information on TV series including learning goals and intended age.

Since its release on iOS devices in 2011, the PBS Kids Video App has seen steady growth. So far in 2014, the app has generated an average of 245 million video streams per month, an increase of more than 65% year-over-year.

The PBS Kids Video App is also available in the Amazon App Store and PBS Kids content can be streamed online at pbskids.org and on the PBS Kids Roku channel.

For the pubcaster’s new deal with Apple TV, families now have free, on-demand access to thousands of full PBS Kids eps and clips directly on the popular platform which began offering PBS programs last November.
