Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind Sesame Street, will team up with public-private Ounce of Prevention Fund to create a digital platform that develops parents’ understanding of early education for children.
Former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton announced the news yesterday at a Clinton Global Initiative meeting in Denver, Colorado.
Expected to fully roll out in early 2015, the project will deliver tips to help parents connect with children via media activities, create a social network for parents to interact with each other, and strengthen the relationship between teachers and families.
The National Head Start Association will also collaborate to help families in low-income communities ready their children for school. The groups will seek financial support for the project throughout the summer to develop the pilot project set to launch in the fall. (P is for philanthropy.)
The announcement comes on the heels of Sesame Street taking home six awards at the Daytime Emmys, including best children’s preschool series and writing for a children’s series.
