Nick hits the road for Day of Play

Nick is switching things up for its annual Worldwide Day of Play. This year, three of its on-air hosts will literally take the show on the road, travelling to various US cities and hosting local events to build excitement for the big day, September 20, when Nick will go dark in an effort to get kids outside and active.

Nickelodeon is counting down to its annual Worldwide Day of Play, where the network suspends programming in an effort to get kids away from their screens.

This year, Nick will host three events ramping up to its annual get active event on September 20.

On its Road to Worldwide Day of Play, Nick will visit San Diego and Detroit, Michigan, as well as a third city. The ‘third city’ is the hook here, as kids will be able to vote for the winning city that will get the visit.

Kids can vote online from June 30 to July 27  at www.nick.com/play. The content targets kids ages seven to 12. They’ll have to explain why they think their hometown merits a visit. The winner will get the opportunity to bring Nick-themed games, slime and Nick’s live-action stars to their hometown. Stars making an appearance will include actors from the hit shows Instant Mom, The Haunted Hathaways and The Thundermans.

In each city, Nick will partner with local organizations on events that encourage kids to get active. The summer events culminate with the Day of Play on September 20, where the network suspends programming from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. to encourage kids to go outside and play. More event details, including the contest-winning city,  will be announced in the coming weeks.

The presenting sponsor for this year’s event is the United States Tennis Association. It will hold youth tennis demonstrations in each of the chosen cities, to help get kids moving and interested in the game.
