With a boost from Disney Princesses, Jakks Pacific’s reported an increase of 16.9% for net sales over the second quarter of 2014. Despite the increase in sales to US$124.2 million, compared to US$106.2 million over the same period last year, Jakks reported an overall loss of US$9.1 million for Q2 2014.
Jakks CEO and president Stephen Berman highlighted the sustained popularity of their Frozen line, in addition to Disney Princess dolls and Disguise Halloween costumes, as CPs that helped the California-based toyco exceed sales expectations. Marche added that Frozen‘s popularity, however, did take away sales from the company’s other lines.
After a 2013 marred by shortfalls for license minimum guarantees and inventory impairment, which led to company-wide restructuring, Jakks is gaining momentum in 2014. Moving into the fall, girls will have a new offering for dolls and dress-up items from Frozen, Disney’s Princess, Fairies, and Sofia the First.
For the boys, Jakks will also launch large-scale figurines for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which some analysts predict will be a CP summer hit with the upcoming movie release, and Star Wars Rebels.
And not to miss out on the popularity of the toys-to-life realm, Jakks will also launch this fall a new plug-and-play gaming system called Hero Portal. In addition to a Ninja Turtles game, there will also be titles based on the Power Rangers and DC Comics characters.
