After becoming the number one grossing iOS kids app last year, Movile’s PlayKids is set to take on SVOD giants like Netflix and Amazon with the launch of PlayKids 2.0.

The updated version of the subscription-based app includes new content from a slew of kids producers, following deals with Viacom in Latin America and The Jim Henson Company in five other countries, including the US.

Version 2.0 takes the app beyond video: it includes new games and toys, as well as two interactive worlds. In Latin America, the new shows include Nickelodeon hits Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob SquarePants and Ni Hao Kai-Lan. Other new shows include Pajanimals, Peg+Cat, Teletubbies, Peppa Pig, Sid the Science Kid, The Hive and Fireman Sam. The availability of the content will vary by region.

PlayKids 2.0 builds on the success that PlayKids had in 2013. Since launching last June in the US, PlayKids has become the number one global grossing iOS app in the kids and education categories through the second quarter of 2014, and has been the number one grossing iOS app for kids in over 20 countries.
