Discovery Communications is looking to expand its footprint in the retail space, and in doing so the Animal Planet parent company has tapped Doris Miller as its new retail sales executive.

With 20 years of L&M experience, Miller has signed on as VP of retail sales business development for Discovery Consumer Products.

Discovery Communications launched Discovery Consumer Products in June of this year. The new CP division brings the company’s L&M businesses together as one unit, which will focus on developing the network franchises for its TV brands.

Miller will work to extend the retail presence for key company brands including Animal Planet, TLC, Discovery Kids and the Discovery Channel. She will also help with developing the company’s global retail strategy and manage retail accounts in North America.

Prior to joining Discovery’s CP division, Miller was VP of sales at Disney. In this role, she was responsible for overseeing the launch of its various retail programs. Miller also served as VP at Speedo USA, where she expanded the brand into new consumer segments and led merchandising and marketing strategies.

Discovery Consumer Products recently launched a promotion for Shark Week featuring Mighty Fine t-shirts with phrases like “Bite Me” or “Snuffy Lives,” as well as shark-themed baby onesies and shark costumes (pictured) at Wag.com.
