Two of Australia’s leading multi-genre production companies, Sydney-headquartered Essential Media and Brisbane-based Carbon Media, have joined forces to develop Camp Crazy, a new live-action comedy/drama series for teens set in the wilds of Cape York, Queensland.
The 26 x 24-minute series from the indie producers follows the adventures of a group of unlikely teen heroes. They embark on a journey of discovery at a remote research station on Aboriginal land, in the hopes of solving the mystery behind the apparent disappearance of a leading scientist.
Camp Crazy’s episodes work independently and are linked to an overarching storyline that often blurs the boundaries between reality, mythology and time.
The multimillion-dollar series has been in development for more than a year and both producers aim to work closely with Screen Queensland on the project.
The partnership comes on the heels of Carbon Media’s co-pro deal with Ottawa, Canada-based Big Jump Productions on new preschool series Cheeky Dogs, as well as its successful collaboration with Sesame Workshop earlier this year that saw Sesame Street air Indigenous Australian content, Five Kangaroos, for the first time ever.
Essential Media (MY24) is currently in production on Bubble Bath Bay, an animated preschool series for ABC Children’s and Telegael Ireland.
