Boston, Massachusetts-based public broadcaster and producer WGBH is joining forces with music-streaming channel myKaZootv to develop a new musical education series for preschoolers.
Live-action/animated hybrid series Jam Hotel is set in a topsy-turvy hotel run by blues magician Howlin’ Ralph, and his eight-year-old granddaughter Jane, which aims to introduce preschoolers to musical terms and basic music skills.
Marisa Wolsky (Design Squad, Peep and the Big Wide World) and Kathy Waugh (Peep and the Big Wide World, Big and Small) are leading the production for WGBH. Overseeing the music are veteran composers Rich Dickerson (Action Dad, YooHoo and Friends, What’s New, Scooby-Doo?) and Jeff Zahn (Arthur, The Busy World of Richard Scarry).
Education Through Music, a nonprofit that supplies music teachers and curriculum to US schools, will serve as curriculum advisor to the production. To get the ball rolling, an original music video built around the Jam Hotel concept will debut early next year.
WGBH, producer of public television’s Arthur, Curious George and Zoom, also has preschool-targeted Sara Solves It in development with co-producer Out of the Blue Enterprises. It’s one of five series picked for Amazon Studios’ latest round of pilots that will debut early next year.
