More funding is headed to OobEdoO, the fledgling preschool SVOD service launched earlier this year by BinWeevils co-creator Myke Crosby.
While the specific amount was not disclosed, the Welsh startup described the investment as “significant equity funding” that will be used to expand and acquire new content.
The money comes from SME investment company Finance Wales, courtesy of its Wales Technology Seed Fund, which has US$11.7 million (£7.5 million) in its pot to help tech startups commercialize their products.
This marks Finance Wales’ second investment in OobEdoO. An unnamed business angel with a passion for online education also invested in the service.
OobEdoO will now focus on acquiring and creating new content, expanding its services and building its subscriber base.
Described as a digital parenting app, the SVOD service lets preschoolers watch premium shows and play educational games in a safe, ad-free environment. Content on OobEdoO includes properties like Angelina Ballerina, Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom, Bob the Builder, Cyw, Fireman Sam, Humf, In the Night Garden, Pingu, Teletubbies, Thomas and Friends, Timmy Time and Tractor Tom.
Existing investors include Welsh-language broadcaster S4C, which has also provided a Cyw-branded section that offers parenting tips in Welsh and Welsh-language content and programming.
