UK-based Novel Entertainment has scored a commission from pubcaster CBBC for new factual entertainment series Cinemaniacs. And acting greats Sir Ian McKellen and Michael Sheen are lending their talent to the show, which puts the art of filmmaking in the spotlight.

Cinemaniacs explores all aspects of making and watching movies. The eight by half-hour series aims to inspire younger generations of film fans and filmmakers.

Targeting six to 12s, the show looks at movie culture from a funny and off-beat kids’ angle, featuring a roster of industry talent who share comedic stories, insider information and tips on how to make movies. Regular segments include “Michael Sheen: Super Actor,” where the actor fields a challenge from the audience, and “DIY Blockbuster” featuring, among others, director Ron Howard and McKellen.

Novel Entertainment is producing the series, in association with producer and director Julian Kemp, associate producer Michael Sheen, and film-education nonprofit org Into Film.
