Finland-based Rovio Entertainment (Angry Birds) is hoping movie producers will find a hidden treasure in its first young adult book series, Storm Sisters, about the adventures of pirate siblings.
The first book in the series, Storm Sisters: The Sinking World, has been chosen for the Books of Berlinale event, where movie producers search for books they can adapt to the big screen. It is one of 11 finalists at the event, which takes place alongside the Berlin Film Festival. Now in its 10th year, roughly 130 books from more than 25 countries were submitted to the competition this time around.
Storm Sisters revolves around five girls, aged 11 to 17, as they sail the 18th-century seas in search of clues about their parents’ murder. Disguised as pirates, they try to hide their real identities as members of a secret ancient guard.
Written by Mintie Das, The Sinking World debuted at last year’s Frankfurt Book Fair. It has since secured publishers in France, Hungary, Indonesia and Finland, and will hit retail shelves in late 2015/early 2016. A second title, Storm Sisters: The Frozen Seas, is set to follow.
