It’s shaping up to be a big year for UK preschool show Bing. London-based indie studio Acamar Films, which announced the acquisition of the IP’s rights in November 2012, has inked a new publishing deal with Immediate Media to feature Bing in the official CBeebies magazine in March.
In December, Egmont Publishing launched a dedicated magazine for the show, and the second issue will be available in May. Master publishing licensee Harper Collins, meanwhile, is readying a major multi-format TV tie-in program for the property, as well as re-issuing the entire series of Bing books from award-winning author and illustrator Ted Dewan.
In addition, negotiations are in the works to bring the 78 x seven-minutes series about preschool life as seen through the eyes of a three-year-old rabbit to 30 new territories, and global master toy licensee Fisher-Price will launch its first batch of toys for the property in the UK in Q4.
Produced for CBeebies by Acamar Films, in association with Dublin’s Brown Bag Films and London-based Tandem Films, and distributed globally by Aardman, the show has won a Writer’s Guild Award, scored a BAFTA nomination for best preschool series, and attracted more than 22 million views on BBC’s iPlayer since its TV launch last June.
