US-based distributor Cinedigm has joined forces with Bright Educational Media to launch Bright, a new multiplatform digital kids channel that will feature edutainment programming.

Aimed at preschool and elementary school kids and their families, the new channel will be a linear and VOD network, airing live-action, educational and learning-themed content.

Programming includes a blend of original series and exclusive acquired content, curated from Cinedigm’s movie and TV library, as well as third-party producers.

While the acquired shows have yet to be announced, original programs will include series like Hooked on Science, which explains real world science to kids through easy at-home experiments and Cooking Time with Remmi, a health-based cooking show hosted by 14-year-old chef Remmi Smith that teaches kids to make smarter eating choices. Spaghetti Eddie will also air on the channel, featuring lovable characters that engage children with interactive original songs and stories teaching values and life lessons.

Cinedigm and Bright Educational Media will launch, operate, market and maintain the channel together.

The partnership with Bright marks the latest OTT move for Cinedigm, as the distributor expands its portfolio of digital networks.

Earlier this week, the distributor announced plans with TV4 Entertainment to create six new OTT channels together, spanning a variety of demographics. The company currently has plans to launch a Dove Movie Channel in mid-2015, with all content approved by the DOVE Foundation.
