DHX Media has signed VTech as the interactive electronic toys licensee for the CGI-rebooted Teletubbies series expected to air on CBeebies by the end of the year.
Products from the global electronic learning toy company will launch in the UK this fall and into winter 2016, followed by core European territories (France, Germany, Benelux, Iberia), as well as Australia and New Zealand.
VTech joins a growing list of more than 20 licensees for the 60-episode Teletubbies revamp being produced for Canada’s DHX Media by UK prodco Darral Macqueen.
The current licensee roster includes Worlds Apart (furniture and accessories), Aykroyds (nightwear and underwear), Character World (bedding), Amscan (party ware), Bon Bon Buddies (confectionery), Posh Paws (bags) GB Eye (posters) and Zak UK (melamine tableware), Ravensburger (themed puzzles), MV Sports (wheeled and outdoor toys), International Greetings (arts and crafts), Gemma (greeting cards) and Rainbow Productions (costume characters). Retail products in core categories are expected to rollout in 2016.
In addition, Character Options signed on as master toy partner in September 2014 and will launch a range of plush, plastic and bath toys beginning in the UK in 2016.
The refreshed Teletubbies series features the same characters (Po, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, Tinky Winky) from one of most successful global children’s brands ever.
The original series ran from 1997 to 2001 and aired in more than 120 territories in 45 languages. It was also the first western preschool property to be picked up by China’s CCTV.
Clips from the original series continue to rack up more than 50 million views per month on You Tube.
