Spanish toyco Famosa has secured a deal with Madrid’s Anima Kitchent, a new prodco incorporated by Mexico’s Anima Estudios, to turn its popular mini-doll brand Pinypon into an animated TV series for girls ages six to eight.
With production expected to begin this spring, PINY, Pinypon Institute of New York is a 52 x 11-minute fashion- and lifestyle-based series that will be part of a larger multiplatform Pinypon entertainment brand featuring animated shorts destined for mobile and online distribution.
The series, which follows a telenovela structure with full season story arcs, is set in an exclusive New York fashion and design school and follows the adventures of main character Michelle and her fashionista friends as they navigate their personal and educational lives at the institute.
Anima Kitchent and Famosa will present the series at next week’s Kidscreen Summit in Miami.
Famosa’s Pinypon mini-doll brand launched 30 years ago and its products are currently sold in more than 80 countries.
On top of launching Anima Kitchent, Ánima Estudios also handles international management and marketing for Vodka Capital brands including Jelly Jamm, Bugsted and Pirata & Capitano, has produced nine animated feature films (Top Cat: The Movie, The Legend of La Llorona) and the iconic Latin American toon El Chavo since 2006.
