Disney Junior has snapped up rights to develop an original animated series and TV movie based on New York Times bestselling book series Fancy Nancy by Jane O’Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser.

Slated to premiere in 2017, Disney Consumer Products will support the series with role-play and other related licensed goods, while Disney Publishing is teaming up with HarperCollins for books based on the TV series.

Targeting kids two to seven, Fancy Nancy follows the adventures of a young girl who likes to be fancy in everything she does, from her creative and elaborate attire, to her advanced vocabulary.

The Fancy Nancy franchise, now in its 10th year, includes more than 60 titles and 28 million books sold in 20 languages.

Other accolades for the series include being named 2008’s Book Character of the Year by Global License, two Toy Industry Association Toy of the Year Award nominations and two LIMA International Licensing Excellence Award resulting in a win for Best Character Brand Program of the Year in 2009.
