Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana Enterprises has joined forces with actress Julie Andrews and her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton to develop a new animated TV series based on the mother-daughter duo’s book-based property, The Very Fairy Princess.
Slated to air next year, the preschool show will be jointly developed with Andrews and Walton Hamilton and produced at Nelvana Studio in Toronto, Canada.
A New York Times bestselling series, The Very Fairy Princess franchise is part of The Julie Andrews Collection and is published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.
The series chronicles the adventures of Geraldine, who knows deep down that she is a fairy princess, despite all evidence to the contrary. She does everything fairy princesses would do, from dressing in royal attire to practicing her flying skills, but she she knows ultimately that being a princess isn’t all twirls and tiaras – inner sparkle is what matters most.
The new animated TV series will focus on Geraldine, for whom being a very fairy princess is less about appearances than it is about knowing what makes your heart sing, and sharing that with others.
Illustrated by Christine Davenier, the series includes eight titles. A ninth book, The Very Fairy Princess: A Spooky, Sparkly Halloween, is set to roll out later this year.
