Gaumont Animation (formerly Alphanim), along with co-production partners Studio Campedelli (Italy), TV Tokyo and Kodansha (Japan), has closed a raft of deals with international broadcasters for Calimero.
The new 104 x 11-minute CGI series for upper preschoolers, starring the iconic little black chicken, has been acquired by Discovery Kids (Latin America), TiJI (Russia), TG4 (Ireland), RTBF (Belgium), Ketnet (Belgium), Zappelin (The Netherlands), Just4Kids (Benelux), Hop (Israel), Prava i Prevodi (Serbia) and RTV (Slovenia).
Based on the original IP of the same name created in 1963 by Nino Pagot, Toni Pagot and Ignazio Colnaghi, which spawned 290 episodes of animation that aired in more than 80 countries, Gaumont’s rebooted Calimero had a record-breaking debut on French broadcaster TF1′s TFOU kids block in 2013.
It has since been sold to RAI (Italy), Super RTL (Germany), Disney Junior, TV Tokyo, Tele Quebec (Canada) and RTS (Switzerland).
The new series has also spawned digital app, toy, apparel and plush licensing deals.
Calimero is distributed by Gaumont worldwide, except in Asia.
