In another example of kids content moving across screens regardless of format, Nickelodeon has ordered 20 episodes of comedy-adventure series Welcome to the Wayne, the network’s first short-form web series pick-up for television.

Created by writer and composer Billy Lopez (The Wonder Pets!, Phineas and Ferb), the series originally launched as six four- to five-minute eps on the Nick App and nick.com in August 2014.

The longer-format TV version of the series is slated to debut in 2016.

Welcome to the Wayne follows the adventures of two ten-year-old boys, Olly Timbers and Ansi Molina, who go exploring around their crazy New York City apartment building, The Wayne.

Along with the order, Nickelodeon plans to launch a companion app called The Wayne that will let users interact with videos, online games, and photos to explore the show’s mysterious apartment building, discover new characters and locations, solve puzzles and unlock clues.

The pick-up comes as Nickelodeon continues to strengthen its multiplatform strategy with the recently launched stand-alone streaming service Noggin, featuring both long- and short-form preschool content, as well as a new app for the Apple Watch that lets parents control what their kids watch on the Nick Jr. App.
