UK pubcaster CBBC is set to bring Aardman Animations’ classic clay character Morph back to TV in new episodes slated to air this June.
Morph returns to the Beeb after 15 years away from the small screen. Created in 1977 by Aardman, he first appeared on BBC Children’s art series Take Hart, alongside artist and presenter Tony Hart.
Staying true to the original format, the new episodes were shot using clay and traditional stop-frame animation at Aardman’s studio in Bristol. The new 15 x one-minute episodes were instigated and partially funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised more than US$171,000 (£110,000). They first launched last year on the clay figure’s dedicated YouTube channel.
In Take Hart, Morph resided in a wooden pencil box on Hart’s desk, appearing predominantly in one-minute shorts in which he would reply in gibberish to the artist’s personal queries.
