Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group has picked up worldwide English-language rights for the first two novels and a graphic adaptation of Rovio Entertainment’s second young adult book series, Freya, from author Matthew Laurence.

Freya recounts the story of an ancient goddess living in obscurity in a Florida mental hospital, whose quiet life is turned upside down when an ominous man, who knows her true identity, offers her a job and she embarks on a thrilling return to the spotlight.

The series will be published among the first titles of Imprint, a part of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group.

As for Rovio’s first entry into the YA novel market, the Storm Sisters series, German publisher Bastei Lübbe has nabbed worldwide English and German digital rights.

Written by Mintie Das, the series follows five girls disguised as pirates, who sail the high seas in the late 1780s in search of clues about their parents’ murder.

Elina Ahlback Literary Agency has sold the first title in the series, Storm Sisters: The Sinking World, to publishers in five countries, including to Planeta (Spain), Robert Laffont (France), Tammi (Finland), Gramedia (Indonesia) and JCS Media (Hungary).

A date has not been set for the release of the second title, Storm Sisters: The Frozen Seas.
