As kids continue to diversify their media consumption, US satellite service DIRECTV has launched a new standalone app that lets them stream movies and TV shows from kidnets like Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Sprout.
Aimed at kids ages five to 10, DIRECTV Kids is a free app for iPhones and iPads.
Kids can access content offered in their family’s programming package at no extra charge. The mobile offerings provides a safe viewing environment, whether children are on-the-go or using mobile devices at home.
According to the company, kids can watch shows and movies from Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, HBO, Starz and Sprout, with Disney content coming soon.
The mobile-video app incorporates age-based ratings and reviews from Common Sense Media, like the recently launched Kid Zone on Comcast’s Xfinity service. It also has a Recently Watched tool that lets kids resume their shows, and interactive categories to help discover new programming.
In a nod to multiplatform and multi-child viewing, users can view DIRECTV Kids content on up to five iPads or iPhones simultaneously.
